For most of my life I have suffered with the common four-lettered word which haunts most teenagers – acne. From Benzac to Roaccutane – you name it, i’ve tried it. It continued to follow me into early adulthood which not only affected my skin but my self-esteem.
In early 2016 I ditched my dermatologist and every skincare product in my cupboard to start a new plant-based skincare journey. For the first 6 months my skin continued to breakout, clearing out the mass amount of chemicals my skin was once accustom to.
Fast-forward the clock two years and now i’m in a different place, physically and mentally. Passionate Skin Care has been in my beauty collection since the beginning of my journey and has played a role in the transformation of my skin. I’m honoured to sit down with Beck Howe and introduce you to the world of Passionate Skin Care.
Tell us how the Passion Skin Care journey started and the inspiration behind it?
Passionate Skin Care was born out of a frustration for a lack of simple skin care and a need for a product range which was authentically natural. After failing to find a product which was both 100% natural and also effective, we took it upon ourselves to create our own. The SkinFood collection was intended for personal use however taking the range to market was the natural progression after sharing SkinFood with friends and family who reported incredible clear skin results. We quite simply married together the highest quality oils, waxes and butters in a very particular ratio which results in an oil based skincare collection that absorbs fast, is effective and doesn’t feeling you’re wearing oils.
Most of the ingredients used in the SkinFood collection are certified organic. Why was it important for Passionate Skin Care to exclusively source and use organic ingredients in each formulation?
We meticulously tested and handpicked each of our raw ingredient suppliers and chose certified organic ingredients. Our Jojoba and Manuka oil are organic, however, not certified organic. We chose to work with a small Australian Jojoba farmer in Queensland after getting to know their organic farming practices. Our Manuka oil is chemical free and wild crafted in New Zealand. We appreciate being able to pick up the phone and speak directly to the farmer who is always happy to answer any tough questions we have. From day one we knew we were manufacturing the world’s best skin care and it was fundamental to use the highest quality organic raw ingredients we could source.
We are happy to see that hemp oil is found in all three products in the collection! How did you discover hemp and why should everyone be using it?
Hemp oil is honestly the champion ingredient in our products and one of the reasons why the SkinFood collection exists today. We discovered hemp organically through shopping at health food stores, way before SkinFood was even a concept. The first prototype we designed actually came from a recommended skin care recipe on the back of a hemp seed packet, back when the nutritional panel needed to be covered up! The SkinFood which exists today is far different from the original recipe however hemp oil stayed as a staple ingredient in the formulas. Hemp truly is a super plant for not only its rich nutritional profile but its unique versatility and ability to be used in building, clothing, and skincare.
Let be honest, face serum is the forgotten beauty product. Why should everyone be using a serum and how should we incorporate it into our daily skin care routine?
You’re spot on. Face serum really is the forgotten beauty product by all. In my opinion it’s because the beauty industry has created so much fear around oils when really there should be more education around it being a must for clearer balanced skin. If you’re continuously removing oil from your skin your sebaceous glands are going to create more oil to compensate – hello unbalanced skin! It’s easy to introduce a serum into your daily routine. We recommend swapping out your day and night moisturiser with a serum. If you’re using SkinFood serum, simply apply three drops morning and night to clean skin. Easy!
With so many products now available on the market picking the right one for certain skin types can be challenging. Would you recommend the SkinFood collection to anyone that is suffering with acne or eczema?
Absolutely! If you’re suffering from acne you need to get onto our SkinFood serum, three drops morning and night will do the trick. We also strongly recommend looking at your diet and making some small improvements such as drinking more water and cutting down on your sugar intake. As for eczema, our Vegan SkinFood would be the best option. It’s deeply nourishing but won’t leave you feeling greasy.
What’s in-store next for the Passionate Skin Care range? Please spill any secrets you may be hiding!
We have listened to our customers who want a cleanser, facial exfoliator, mask and deodorants. They’re all on the cards but our SkinFood chef is a perfectionist so please stay patient.

Like avocado to toast – necessary.
